When There is a Need, There is a Response
The Unity Church of Mesa Prayer Shawl Ministry Love-In-Action Team began May 11, 2007, to allow knitters to participate in fulfilling many worthwhile needs. First, prayer shawls were knitted and sent to Africa to the Rainbow of Hope Home for mothers and children with aids. Next, we knitted yarn squares to be made into lap-robes for war veterans. Our youth were taught how to create hats in Kids-For-Knitting classes. They made hats for children in the “Hats For Nepal” Program. Knitters from the Prayer Shawl Ministry as well as others from our church also made hats for the children of Nepal. We use yarn from our “Rainbow of Hope” Room. Yarn supplies seem to manifest like breathing: inhale, exhale, give and receive. The Law of Prosperity and Law of Attraction are demonstrating through the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Unity Church of Mesa.
The love of knitting is shared at our ongoing meetings. Knitting volunteers and yarn supplies have materialized to meet the needs of the community. The Prayer Shawl Ministry addresses real needs. For example, a young woman from our church community, Heather Morrison, wanted to participate in the Prayer Shawl Ministry. However, her work schedule prevented her from attending our meetings. So we came up with the idea of taking the Prayer Shawl Ministry to her place of work, Alterra of Tempe Residence For Memory Loss. A suggestion was made for the residents to do a simple task of taking a skein of yarn and rolling it into a ball. This has opened up a dialogue of reflecting on life memories, as well as social interaction, physical therapy, and creating a purpose – “We are helping.” The residents put their love, determination, energy, wisdom, dedication and desire into each yarn ball they roll. Each completed ball is a gift of giving.
Prayer Shawl Ministry member Jeannine Clampitt created a specially designed prayer shawl for Alterra residents to be knitted from the yarn balls they prepared. The completed shawls were folded into heart-shaped bundles tied with a red ribbon. They were blessed by the church community and presented to the residents by Barbara Wyatt, Sharon Beckman, and Delaine Collins in a special service led by our Associate Minister Meghan Smith. The basket of prayer shawls was warmly received by the residents. As each resident was “wrapped in love,” the room radiated with the expressions of Love-In-Action. Thanks to all who participated in this special outreach program. Your presence of loving support could be seen in the smiling face of each resident. Blessed Be!
Knitting us Together in Unity Across the Country
The Prayer Shawl Ministry of the Unity Church of Mesa is touching many lives in our community and across the nation. Yarn donations and finished hats, prayer shawls and blankets are frequently dropped off at church. You can see by the Rainbow of Hope Room the manifestation of beautiful energy filling the room with yarns of various colors. As we inhale yarn, we are exhaling many different projects filling special needs across the country.
One such project was the Biloxi Habitat for Humanity Service Project. Kim Farish took prayer shawls, hats, blankets and various other knitted items to be a Blessing to the homeless in Biloxi, Mississippi. While our group from Unity of Mesa was in Biloxi, they received additional items knitted by Ann Penrose, a resident of Narbeth, Pennsylvania. Ann is the mother of Jean Arlotte, a member of Unity Church of Mesa. The Law of Attraction and the desire to extend the concept of giving and receiving manifested these knitted items for the residents of homes recently built by Habitat for Humanity. We are knitting together from Pennsylvania to Arizona to Mississippi.
We have received yarn from all over the country including Ohio and North Carolina, and prayer shawls knitted from this yarn are likewise being distributed all across the country. Prayer intention and manifestation results in prayer shawls reaching and comforting grateful recipients. The Law of Prosperity has blessed our ministry. The yarn donations and the staff of volunteer knitters keep on multiplying. Thanks be to all.

Biloxi Habitat for Humanity Service Project Notes from Kim Farish
On Nov. 5, ‘07, I joined several others from Unity of Mesa in Biloxi, Miss. to help Habitat for Humanity rebuild homes ravaged by the Katrina Disaster. What an unforgettable experience that was for me. The appreciation you experience from the homeowners and other people of the area is just phenomenal. I am happy to share my pictures here with you. The home dedication (left, below) was very touching, not a dry eye was present. 50 shawls were given out. After I left, Ed White and others stayed behind. We would also like to recognize Ed White with gratitude for the role he played in forming our group to help in Biloxi. Ed will be going again this Spring but housing is limited so this trip is for those who can stay in their own RV. Talk to Ed if you’re interested in helping. ♥
